When it finally became impossible to delude ourselves any longer that working from home and having a baby were in any way compatible, we had some tough decisions to make. Did we look to extend, look to move somewhere bigger, or think outside the box and attempt to better utilise the garden?
We invited architects, builders and garden room companies to talk to us about the options, and thought them through between ourselves. Extending would be the traditional solution, but no matter how big the resulting house was, I'd still be attempting to work from the same building in which my baby son was testing his voice...Moving would have been disruptive, and in the then-current lending deadlock, trying to sell our current property in order to buy a new place would have been fraught with difficulty, and I would probably STILL have ended up working in the same building as my baby son.
The room in the garden, though a relatively novel idea, seemed to solve all the problems. We talked ideas through with various companies, each of which had a different take on the same idea. Some only offered pre-fabricated options; others offered only bespoke builds on-site. When we met Martin from Swift Garden Rooms, it was like a breath of fresh air - anything was possible. We took the plunge, and haven't looked back!

Right from our first meeting with Cath and Martin it felt like being reunited with old friends and that reassuring, genuine relationship never changed throughout the project build and beyond. The studio has exceeded expectations on a number of levels but the most unexpected outcome is the joy we have benefited from in terms of the new dynamic of a link to the outdoors and in particular our garden which has now become a focal point with the studio ... and I can honestly say a new living space. The room that we claimed back in the house as living space, once we had the studio, has been invaluable. No matter what the weather, our garden is a joy and amazingly looks bigger with the large studio in it. This is now a wonderful social space for ourselves, family and friends and a magnet to wildlife. We have thoroughly enjoyed working in the garden and redesigning this outdoor living space (inspired by the studio) that has made such a positive impact to our days and evenings. Adding any form of extension to your property is a decision that needs to be made carefully and cautiously. Make the wrong decision and you could be left with a costly, unsightly mistake. Make the right decision and you will benefit from a beautiful addition that will increase the value of your house. Whilst research is an important part of the process, building a trust relationship with your chosen provider is essential. Not trusting the person who is going to be working in and around your home can only lead to one thing – problems.
There is no denying that there are numerous companies that provide outdoor buildings, but for me there was only one that met all of my criteria – Quality, style, value for money, flexibility, and trust. From the moment I spoke to Swift, I knew their ethos and work ethic was different to the other companies I had dealt with. Martin listened to my requirements and made changes to the standard build to meet my specifications. He never tried to "sell" me anything I didn’t require and made valuable recommendations based on his years of experience in this field. Nothing was too much trouble and any comments, questions or concerns I had were quickly answered and rectified. His team of builders and electricians were extremely professional and polite.
Choosing Swift to build my garden room was the right decision and I am extremely happy with the end result. If I had my choice again, would I choose Swift….Absolutely !

The whole process from our first meeting with Martin, to being handed the keys of our finished office, went very smoothly. Martin always answered any queries quickly and thoroughly.
